JIM (I guess we’re going with capitalization for emphasis). I do follow politics enough to know that that majority of his base were in fact minorities. And yes, in fact, being called a ‘dumb little liberal college kid’ does offend me, and you’re entirely correct that it is my problem, however, being that it is you who has insulted me, I do in fact have a direct problem with you. Age still does not equate to a greater amount of life experience, only a different kind of life experience. Do I know what it was like to be a 20 year old in the 80’s? Certainly not, but then again you do not know what it is like to be a 20 year old in the 2010’s. Your life experience is different, but not greater than my own. I do know as much as my parents and grandparents, from a different point of view. We both had to look for answers. I can just Google it, but my parents had to pick up a book. Did we both find the answer, yes. was the answer the same? Yes. I do not see how my parents having to find an answer in a book gives them more life experience than me. (Perhaps you can explain?) Tell me something, JIM, can you both build a computer and create a self-sustaining plot of land (in this case, a garden). I can. This does not mean I necessarily have more experience than you. And no, you’re correct, I do not hate Obama. Personally, I’ve never met him to know what he’s like. However, I do agree with some of his views, even though I largely disagree with them. Also, I will learn plenty. I will learn how to build an engine for a car, build a bookshelf, learn to be a better cook, embroider, and mostly, I will learn to be more open minded. Maybe you will too.

Nothing is impossible, there are only those who are to lazy to try. My values have not changed. I believe in gun control, equal rights under the law for all citizens (specifically marriage in this case), strict immigration and deportation laws, etc. I have had these values for a lot of my life, since I was old enough to understand what having these values meant. My professors have not given me any stories about their professions. 9 out of 10 of them currently work in their fields. (The one exception being a female professor of mine who just had her first child. She’s going to be on extended maternity leave from her non-teaching job and is teaching less at the college.) Like I said, one of my professors works at Toys R Us, specifically as the regional manager (a major corporation, and yes, that is a major position. Sorry it’s not like CEO or something), going on 25 years, my law teacher does in fact work in a well established law firm and specializes in real estate law. They’re not retired, and they are most certainly not doing consulting jobs for the college. I wonder if you talked about your professors like this when you were getting your degree. I can’t imagine you would show so much disrespect to those who were helping you gain the knowledge you needed to succeed in your field. Also, on a side note, I worked in my industry for 5 years before deciding to go for a degree in the same field. I decided to get my degree to advance my career.

Have a nice life and try to remember this conversation 20 years from now. I GUARANTEE you that someday you will laugh and say to yourself: Wow, I really didn’t know crap about life when I was in my twenties. And I don’t mean that as an insult. It’s simply something that EVERYONE realize after they turn thirty PLUS years old. And one last thing. Speak with a few people that have been out of college for over ten years and ask them how much what they learned in college helped them in the REAL world. I promise you the will say NOTHING! Good Luck!
