The epic battle of guns in public places continues across America. With gun-hater Mike Bloomberg spending millions trying to convince businesses to forbid guns, the companies that have adopted that policy have been quickly made sorry by criminals.
And 3 Jack-in-the-Box locations suffered robberies and a shooting within 2 weeks of their new corporate policy “requesting” no guns on site. Retail giant Target saw 3 of its stores targeted by criminals, within days of enacting an anti-gun policy.
So it’s great to see when a business goes against the media and well-heeled activists and stands up for the gun rights of their customers.
One such business is Bergeron’s Restaurant out of Port Allen, Louisiana, where the owner, Kevin Cox has a new policy to benefit customers who are packing: “I just need to see a weapon. I need you to be carrying a gun,” and you’ll get 10% off your tab.
The discount began a few weeks ago, as a way to thank law enforcement members for their service. But when law-abiding citizens started asking for the discount for their concealed carry handguns, Cox states he was more than happy to extend the offer.
His special discount is not winning him any friends among Louisiana liberals, who are furious at the news.
Maria Faisal, who is active in state efforts to restrict gun rights, said she is outraged by the new policy. “Fewer guns mean less crime. It is crazy to encourage people to bring guns into the public sphere.”
Of course actual reality contradicts Ms. Faisal’s liberal fantasy. A big study by the non-pasrtisan Congressional Research Service (CRS) last December proved that increased gun ownership slashed violent crime rates by nearly half.
Owner Cox gave his own view on the subject:
“I keep hearing so much about people banning guns. Target’s banning guns and these people are banning guns. Don’t they realize that that’s where people with guns are going to go? I want to take the opposite approach. How can I make my place safer?”
“I think it protects the restaurant. It discourages people from breaking in. If they think someone may have a gun and it’s concealed, you’ll think twice about coming in and robbing somebody,” he added. “You feel safer because I mean somebody walks in and wants to rob the place, they’re going to think twice when they see it’s not a gun free place.”
Amen. Any place is safer with a “good guy with a gun.” Just ask the woman who was saved from the beheading her co-worker received by an Oklahoma jihadist last year, because her boss had a concealed carry gun.
