An official portrait of former first lady Michelle Obama was unveiled at the Smithsonian’s National Portrait Gallery Monday morning. There was wall-to-wall coverage by the entire media.
The painting was done by Baltimore artist Amy Sherald, who is known for her “social justice”painting style.
However, the actual unveiling was met with a gasp…and then slow applause from those assembled — most of whom were friends and fans of the Obamas, and a massive, friendly media throng.
All presidents and first ladies have their portraits done and hung in the Portrait Gallery.
But when the former First Lady unveiled it, she looked less than pleased…
And glared at the audience when they gasped…
And then, instead of complimenting it, she asked her MOM what SHE thought of it. Not what the artist wanted to hear.
“Whatcha think?” she asked her mother, Marian Robinson. “It’s pretty nice, isn’t it?”
