Former NBA great Charles Barkley is generating huge controversy for calling out “unintelligent” black people for criticizing successful black people as “acting white” or not acting black enough.

Barkley’s comments aired during an interview on the Philadelphia radio show “Afternoons with Anthony Gargano and Rob Ellis,” Barkley was asked about a rumor that Seattle Seahawks QB Russell Wilson was getting criticism from his black teammates for not being “Black enough.”

Barkley unleashed a big-time monologue on the subject, lashing Blacks who think that “if you’re not a thug or an idiot, you’re not black enough.

”Unfortunately, as I tell my white friends, we as black people, we’re never going to be successful, not because of you white people, but because of other black people. When you’re black, you have to deal with so much crap in your life from other black people. It’s a dirty, dark secret; I’m glad it’s coming out.”

And that was just the beginning. Expect serious waves from this soapbox encounter tomorrow in and out of the sports world, as word of this amazing tirade spreads.

Go for it Charles. Tell it like it is, the race baiters will be really upset.

    • frances951

my stepmother recently got an awesome month old Chevrolet Express Cargo Diesel by working from a home computer. see post …….>> -> DETAILED ONLINE INFO HERE!! <-

  • Carol Marie

    tellin’ it like it is

  • Eagle View

We need more and more to come out and tell the truth like this. Raven Symone did on Oprah. MC Hammer did back when I was in college but until we start having a lot more stars coming out and speak the truth like this nothing is going to change.

    • Papi

I think there are a lot of successful black people that absolutely know this is the truth, but don’t want to lose their source of revenue (in the case of entertainers) and be ostracized.

  • Truthbetold

Charles Barkley…I think I love you man!

  • flyphish

Don’t much care for Sir Charles, but I sure have to stand with him on this one.

  • pastrami

The most successful people in my life, black, white, brown, all of us, have been those who see themselves as living beyond all that. Standing above it. People who just won’t let the barriers… life’s crap… stand in their way. Focussed on goals, be they work, business, family, etc, nothing steers them astray, including peer pressure.
As people say…. keep your eyes on the prize… whatever that may be.
Almost nothing always applies to every member of any group, but Charles strikes a chord I think, concerning a lot of people, again, of any color. Peer pressure can be good or bad. Individuals must decide.

  • John Philippi

In other words, if you’re not a complete dumbass, you’re not black enough. Makes perfect sense to me. o_O

  • Tex

Can’t argue with Sir Charles. He’s been calling it like it is for YEARS! He gets how pathetic most black people are.

  • Dano

It’s too bad that I can’t share this on Facebook. All the black, gay and white people that I know would call me a racist for condoning Barkley’s statements. The dynamics of modern day douche-baggery are simply amazing. Thank you, Al Sharkton, Hillary Clinton, Oprah Winfrey and Jessee Jackson.

    • Share it anyway. Find out who your true friends are.

  • Valerie Sutko Vaughn

Thank you Sir Charles! If only this stupid, stupid cycle could stop.
Sadly there’s Al Sharpton & Jesse Jackson defending the indefensible on the other side of the fence.
    You rock Charles!!

  • George Ramos

Good for him. More “intelligent” and “successful” African-Americans should speak out like this. Maybe, just maybe the unintelligent ones will listen and strive to be like them.

  • Jannelle Nefrusheri

He gets no credit. Especially when this man can’t even say unintelligent. What is UNTELLIGENT? It’s easy to put down black people in front of the nation. That’s how you keep your job. If he was really about right and wrong he would call out white racism as much as he goes in on blacks. But it’s not about right and wrong, it’s about brownie points with the dominant society. This is what we call a buck dancin’ ,grinin’ and shuflin’, boot lickin’, yessa massa, is we sick boss, coon house nigga.

    • Minuteman

Like it or not, he’s telling the truth and accepting the facts without letting Al and Jesse do the thinking for him. And that’s why he’s a success and you’re a welfare queen.

    • momof3

He was asked a question and responded accordingly. Who hasn’t experienced racism? Not sure what dominant society means? We have multiple societies? Explains a lot.

    • Frank Grasha Sr

What is perceived as raceism , Most of the time it is dissgust with what is perceived as black To talk like an uneducated thug is not going to advance anyone position When all the blacks realize that being civilized is the goal . Things will improve very quickly . The world will never try to become like the thugs !

    • Diablo Dog

My guess is your wrong and you know it but since you are exactly the type of person Charles is taking about you feel the need to play the race card and try to lay blame on anybody except the one who is responsible for your short comings and lack of education and that person who is responsible for your life is you. The white people are not to blame for your life and the only ones keeping racism alive are President Obama, AL Sharpton, Jesse Jackson and the uneducated Black Community. You need to get over it and stop blaming everyone else for your situation in life.

    • Vic Anderson

This has nothing to do with white racism. This is exactly what is wrong with people like you with zero reading comprehension and sense of context. This was in response to an incident within the Seahawks organization. He didn’t just randomly go flapping his gums about it. Shut your mouth and sit in the corner until you learn how to research things.

  • Jannelle Nefrusheri

This man cannot enunciated a 5 syllable word, but has the nerve to talk down to black people. Get hock on phonics before you talk about unTELLIGENCE. SMH

    • Maybe you should re-read your posts, then criticize.

    • Diablo Dog

And you should talk ! Read your response then re-write it with correct pronunciations and proper sentence structure before you start slamming Sir Charles you uneducated person who happens to be exactly what he is talking about.

  • Stephen Bellinger

I don’t see what he said as controversial , or even that big a deal. If you are not one of those people, who think that knocking someone else down makes you better, than you should not have a problem with this either. He is talking about a portion, “some”, and a stupid some at that. The sickness comes in when, when others think that, this some is the majority, which it is not. But the media, and many people like to make present the stupid some is the vast majority because it reinforces their stupid stereotypes. There is no such thing as “black” enough.

  • Robert Jay Scovel Jr.

It’s about time the truth started coming out. Good job Charles.

  • Proud Patriot

This is like that Raven Simone comment on Oprah. People start to say something that isn’t PC but totally realistic and people freak out.

  • Diablo Dog

It is easier to pull the race card and blame whitey than to accept the truth and Charles spoke the truth .

  • James Miller

Google Bill Cosby and see what he has said for decades about this. Charles is just restating the same correct message.

  • Datam

Mr Barkley is the type of role model I wish more black youth would listen to and try to emulate.
