Unrest continued for a second night in a St. Louis suburb where rioting, looting, arson and vandalism marked a hellish night Sunday, after groups protesting an unarmed Black man who was fatally shot by police turned to extreme violence and ransacked the center of this town.

Authorities blocked off access to Ferguson on Monday night and KTVI-TV reported that police in riot gear were using tear gas to disperse a crowd of protesters. It said there were reports of rubber bullets being fired. KMOV-TV said the tear gas was being fired at people gathering near a major intersection.

This as Attorney General Eric Holder announced he was ordering Federal “monitoring” of the events in Ferguson.

Stunning Tweets from the area began to appear online around 9pm CST:

Someone wrote “Snitch” on the Quik Mart rioters looted and burned last night, making one wonder if the store had been targeted for being friendly with police. In the inner city “Snitching” to police — even if your own family was victimized — is considered out-of-bounds, leaving many serious crimes unsolved:

Rubber bullets reportedly being used. Unclear what rioting actions in the sealed-off area would being about such a response. We cannot see into that area.

Tanks brought in…
