Country Music Star Pulls Out of Tim McGraw’s Anti-Gun Concert, As Fan Outrage Grows

On April 14 Top Right News reported that country singers Tim McGraw and Billy Currington would be headlining a fundraiser for the anti-gun activist group Sandy Hook Promise in Connecticut on July 17.

Country fans, many of whom are passionate supporters of the 2nd Amendment, were outraged and expressed their feelings online, and on country radio stations across America this week.

Now at least one of the artists has responded to that outrage. Late last night, Currington announced he was pulling out of the concert.

carrington

Currington announced his decision to pull out via Facebook:

I’ve never been one to take on controversial issues – I’m a singer. I do feel strongly about honoring and supporting the Sandy Hook community and will be making a donation to a local organization. I appreciate people’s freedom and passion for whatever cause they want to support, however, I am choosing to step aside from this fundraiser and will focus instead on the rest of the tour dates as I look forward to being on the road with Tim and Chase and having a blast with all of the fans.

Meanwhile, McGraw’s tone deaf camp has doubled down, attacking conservative websites like TRN and Breitbart, and saying Sandy Hook Promise is just a support organization for the grieving families.

But this is demonstrably false.  As the International Business Times reported, Sandy Hook Promise “is a vehicle through which various relatives of Sandy Hook victims have joined to push gun control until it passes.” The head of the organization has openly stated he will “dedicate the rest of my life” to pursuing gun control.

It was Sandy Hook Promise, heavily funded by gun-grabbing billionaire Mike Bloomberg, which was instrumental in pushing through Connecticut’s harsh gun control measures that banned guns, limited clip capacity to 10, increased waiting periods, made annual licensing mandatory, and makes guns harder than ever to obtain.

All while doing absolutely nothing to keep guns out of the hands of criminals and psychos like Adam Lanza, or make schools safer to prevent another such tragedy.

Its members even went on 60 Minutes to gloat about their gun-grabbing victory.

The big question now is, with his pro-gun fans slamming McGraw relentlessly, and his iTunes and ticket sales waning, how long will he continue to insult his fan base, by endorsing this blue state gun-grabbing group?

  • Michael Rehfeld

I have proof the Sandy Hook Promise is strictly an anti-gun organization. I attempted to brief them on a system that stops active shooters. Their reply was no thank you, we are focused on gun control. They are not interested in stopping mass killings, just gun control!

    • weikamis

These people should sit down and do some research! These are the people that have no clue how things got started in Nazi Germany! (At the same time, those in Obama’s administration know exactly these facts….)

      • calypsodancler

These “people” have NO knowledge of history….Its a rule, not the exception with these libtards..Nazi Germany did not have ANY effect on them, sooo its not worth learning

      • ellie

and the NRA leadership is in conference now trying to decide how to handle this catastrophe. This concert for 20,000 middle class Americans for a charity (can’t remember the name – never heard of it before) is the biggest threat the NRA has faced in decades!! All concern about elections and who will be the next Supreme Court Justice must be put on hold or everything is lost!

      • Dan Vickers

Actually, the Weimar Republic started the strict gun control laws before Hitler came into office. Hitler actually loosened gun control laws.

        • dianna

making up things as we go along.

  • David Fournier

To late damage done tim you are not a cowboy just a boy

  • weikamis

This is what happens when those in show business, suddenly start mixing politics that they know nothing about with their show business careers.

  • Suzi Schlobohm Andrade

Thank you, Billy Currington. I was disappointed you agreed to this concert. Good to see you pull out of it, even if you are making a donation.

    • Roger Alan Miller

He said he was making a donation to a local organization, not the one that is sponsoring the concert.

      • TacticalYoda

He also didn’t quit the concert over convictions. Just pressure. They aren’t the same thing. we need people with CONVICTION doing the right thing. not the right thing for the wrong reason.

        • bbtx

Billy may not have quit over conviction but I appreciate him not wanting to offend fans who support gun rights. He’s going to “shut up and sing” in a non-politicized environment which is exactly what Tim McGraw ought to do. And not participating in the concert prevents Sandy Hook Promise and associated groups from using Currington to further their agenda.

  • Debbie Harris

Billy…you’re my new favorite…thank you for standing by your convictions!

    • TacticalYoda

NOTHING in his statement says convictions. He quit because of pressure, not convictions.

    • Jaxspike

Um, he didnt stand by any convictions. He was afraid of the negative reaction of some country fans and ran for the hills so he wouldnt lose some sells. We call that being a coward where I live. The only conviction he had was for the love of money.

      • Jr

Seems the thing that has got lost in a lot of these comments is the music.theyre r many artist that I don’t agree with in all different types of music but that’s not what I listen for.a good song is a good song period.i really could care less what political belief they may have.that being said I wish all musicians would leave they’re political beliefs out of it wether its playing a anti gun rally or NRA rally just go play you’re music.everyone has the right to boycott whatever they choose but hard to understand how someone’s beliefs now makes a song or songs once great be worthless.he starts putting those beliefs in his music then don’t buy.dont think u need to agree with every thing a singer says or does to like they’re music.country music isn’t conservative or liberal the dance isn’t either one its just a incredible song regardless of “fan base”.anyway boycott him like dixie chicks I’ll still enjoy they’re music that’s my choice my freedom.enjoyed reading the thread like seeing other views different from my own Ty gn

  • Al

I would say it’s time for Tim McGraw to start playing a different type of music and find a new audience.

  • Cathy B. Puckoris

Woe to the brainwashed Tim McGraw. Banning guns is not the solution. Finding out why our society is producing all these psychopaths. We need to keep our gun rights to protect our families and country. There is something fishy about Sandy Hook anyway.

  • Gary Knapp

Why doesn’t the anti-gun crowd ever distinguish between responsible gun ownership and criminal activity. Please don’t tell me they think criminals will obey any laws, no matter how many of our rights they are successful in getting a left-wing court to take away from us. Further proof you just can’t fix stupid. People will act on emotion alone, throwing logic out the window.

  • byebyebigred

The only good thing he has going is his smoking hot wife.

    • AndyNY

She is annoying as hell though

      • Dan Vickers

If she annoys you, you should stop hanging out with her.

    • Dan Vickers

Well, that and millions of dollars in record sales.

  • dbassman

He has the right to his opinion just like we have the right to turn him into Dixie Tim!

  • Vince Stagbaugh

I like Currington. Not pleased with Tim McGraw at all.

  • oharersn2

    McGraw just lost this fan.

  • jm

I’m sure his gun grab won’t include his armed security.

  • HarryTheCat

To paraphrase an old saying: Tim is all hat, no ballz.

  • Chuck_Key

    McGraw’s a loser!

  • willbilson

Tim McGraw is a skidmark. He helped to usher in what they now call “new country” – what I call schlock rock sung with a twang. I’ve been playing country music (pedal steel) since the 80s, and I remember when he became famous – it involved his daddy’s money and pull, and sure didn’t (IMO) involve being a real Country artist or having real talent. He and his hag wife always held themselves out as being the “smart” democrat liberals who were above the sea of knuckle-draggers surrounding them. F them. So great to see her supplanted by Carrie BTW.

    • Dan Vickers

willbilson, why would you call Faith Hill a “hag”? Name calling is the last resort of the unintelligent.

  • Bob

When people write articles like this and talk about guns, it would be very helpful to use the right terminology. It’s not a ‘clip’. It’s a ‘magazine’. There are many more guns that use magazines than use clips. It’s so funny that the majority of the people, who are ‘anti gun’, have never learned about guns, how to use them, what legal gun owners do with them, try them for themselves or even look at the facts about gun control. Look at the cities where gun control is very strict. You have rampant crime because the criminals don’t care about laws and still have guns. it’s NOT the law abiding gun owners that you have to worry about but the government just wants the guns gone and the people helpless to defend themselves. Look at the facts. This isn’t some conspiracy theory.

    • Dan Vickers

Way to many pro gun people do not know much about guns or how to use them either. I know what a lot guns owners do with their guns, they just drive a long randomly shooting out of the window of their truck. That’s how I came to be lying in the desert with a bullet in my chest. Don’t pretend that just because you’re pro gun that you’re not an idiot with a gun.

    • Lee Dutra

Unfortunately Bob, you’re preaching to the choir. Some folks just don’t get it when it comes to stark facts staring them in the face, they never will. Your comments are way to reasonable and true for some to accept. To me they are known as “The Others”. There are reasonable and intelligent people and then there are “The Others”.

  • Bennie Fits

Does anyone remember the Dixie Chicks? … Yeah, me either.

  • Scooter

Much like the Memories Pizza folks, Tim is standing for his firmly held beliefs… and he’s being condemned for it. Hmm.

    • Rebecca Rockefeller

Apparently not his daughters beliefs, the last I read…

  • Chloe Rowles

He adds insult to injury by saying this is a only a support group for the families…when it is common knowledge that this group’s primary goal is ‘strict’ gun control like the Connecticut bill they spearheaded and bragged about getting passed. THEY ARE ULTIMATELY AFTER OUR GUNS! And Tim McGraw knows THIS; he can’t be that stupid! It is one thing to be stupid enough to vote for and support Obama, but another thing entirely to work against the Bill of Rights and for banning guns.

  • whatisanoath?

He made his choice. It doesn’t involve protecting rights. I hope he is happy with his new fan base.

  • marco a. poshar

McGraw , is a real no talent moron ,

  • Kathy

We cannot give up our gun rights. A people without protection is a people waiting to be slaughtered. If you want to take guns, take them from criminals, not from legal US citizens that have never caused trouble. An EX Tim McGraw fan.

  • des

darn tim—after reading some of these posts—im gonna give you a bit of advice my 1st girlfriend gave me!! YOU BETTER PULL OUT!!!

  • Sandie

Easy come, easy go. I have given up on other artists before that never knew which side their bread was buttered on. McGraw is just now getting a taste of it. Anyone in the spotlight should think twice before jumping on any bandwagon and pissing off the fans. I gave up buying or listening to his wife years ago when she went pop, like others before her. To use country music as a foot in, makes you look stupid, when real country fans figure you out. Bye bye Tim, you are now in contention for my discarding of your CD’s as I did The Dixie Chicks, Willie Nelson, Toby Keith, Garth Brooks, etc. Keep your beliefs and opinions to yourself or LOSE your bread and butter. Nuff said, vent over.

  • Saman

    Boycott Tim

  • blitz32

Tim McGraw has FU money, he doesn’t care what his fans think. When someone shows you who they are, you should believe them.

  • Ed

When will entertainers learn that their careers can frequently be extended by simply sticking to entertainment? Leave the political activities to the elected dolts running this floundering nation.

Ok so why are we focusing on gun control when we should be focusing on getting Mentally Ill folks the help they need and off the street?

    • Lee Dutra

If there was more psycho control we wouldn’t need gun control. My way of saying the same thing. Family values have gone out the window, leaving sick people in it’s wake. Work on building solid family units and watch the problems evaporate.

I’ve never understood why entertainers would involve themselves in political issues. Why alienate your fan base? Do what Elvis did. Whenever asked about political issues, he would respond with something to the effect of “just being an entertainer”. They’re in the business to entertain and make us enjoy their music and concerts. It’s all about making money, so why would you piss off half of your fan base. I just don’t get it.

will never by Tim McGraw or Faith Hill cd’s again and urge everyone to do the same

  • Bill Lee Klingenberg

Tim McGraw will never earn another penny of mine for his Anti American Stand against the Constitution of the United States of America..

  • Richard

Good for Currington, it is the right move. While I am OK with a fund raiser for the families of Sandy Hook, I am not OK with the premise of this fund raiser being anti-second amendment. People who do gun crimes do not respect the constitution, period. However since 99.999999% of us do, that seems like the likely choice to make. As for Tim McGraw, I hope he at least entertains the idea of what the truth is about this concert. I like Tim from what I know of him. I understand that he leans left but I don’t care. That is his right. However, when a political view affects me then I take offense. I like my second amendment and I am sure Tim does too. He needs to stand on principal, quit looking at the fringe and start seeing the majority who are good, descent people and deserve all of our constitutional rights. Violence is a sad fact of life. Bad people always find ways to hurt good people. These things unfortunately won’t end until the end! Come on Tim, don’t go by way of the Dixie Chicks! Country fans are mostly conservative and will and do stand on conviction. They will lose your name! Not worth it bro!

  • Michael Fields

Always disliked the singer. Not news to me. Maybe the Chicks and TM can set a tour date for lefty loosers. Meantime, the brave will continue to defend their right to free speech. Good luck.

The Sandy Hook false flag was a HOAX. Paid actors. Nobody died. The whole thing was staged by the elite to support “anti gun” laws. They cant get their tyranny underway until they get our guns. Why are people so incredibly stupid?? Those who fail to pay attention to historical actions of ALL governments are doomed to repeat history. All the school shootings are done by CIA mind control abuse victims. All the mainstream actors, musicians and news media are complicit with these controlling elite. WAKE UP STUPID AMERICANS
