On April 14 Top Right News reported that country singers Tim McGraw and Billy Currington would be headlining a fundraiser for the anti-gun activist group Sandy Hook Promise in Connecticut on July 17.
Country fans, many of whom are passionate supporters of the 2nd Amendment, were outraged and expressed their feelings online, and on country radio stations across America this week.
Now at least one of the artists has responded to that outrage. Late last night, Currington announced he was pulling out of the concert.
Currington announced his decision to pull out via Facebook:
I’ve never been one to take on controversial issues – I’m a singer. I do feel strongly about honoring and supporting the Sandy Hook community and will be making a donation to a local organization. I appreciate people’s freedom and passion for whatever cause they want to support, however, I am choosing to step aside from this fundraiser and will focus instead on the rest of the tour dates as I look forward to being on the road with Tim and Chase and having a blast with all of the fans.
Meanwhile, McGraw’s tone deaf camp has doubled down, attacking conservative websites like TRN and Breitbart, and saying Sandy Hook Promise is just a support organization for the grieving families.
But this is demonstrably false. As the International Business Times reported, Sandy Hook Promise “is a vehicle through which various relatives of Sandy Hook victims have joined to push gun control until it passes.” The head of the organization has openly stated he will “dedicate the rest of my life” to pursuing gun control.
It was Sandy Hook Promise, heavily funded by gun-grabbing billionaire Mike Bloomberg, which was instrumental in pushing through Connecticut’s harsh gun control measures that banned guns, limited clip capacity to 10, increased waiting periods, made annual licensing mandatory, and makes guns harder than ever to obtain.
All while doing absolutely nothing to keep guns out of the hands of criminals and psychos like Adam Lanza, or make schools safer to prevent another such tragedy.
Its members even went on 60 Minutes to gloat about their gun-grabbing victory.
The big question now is, with his pro-gun fans slamming McGraw relentlessly, and his iTunes and ticket sales waning, how long will he continue to insult his fan base, by endorsing this blue state gun-grabbing group?
