Just a few weeks ago, the “Deep State” thought the fix was in, with Hillary, Comey and the corrupt Obama holdovers at the DOJ and FBI in the clear, and President Trump on the ropes.
But the worm has turned, with disastrous revelations of wrongdoing exposed by a stunned Congress.
Now, Thursday two damaging stories erupted Thursday that could put Hillary in deep trouble.
First, John Solomon reports at The Hill that the Department of Justice has launched a new investigation into the activities of the Clinton Foundation while Hillary Clinton was the Secretary of State:
The Justice Department has launched a new inquiry into whether the Clinton Foundation engaged in any pay-to-play politics or other illegal activities while Hillary Clinton served as Secretary of State, law enforcement officials and a witness tells The Hill.
FBI agents from Little Rock, Ark., where the Foundation was started, have taken the lead in the investigation and have interviewed at least one witness in the last month, and law enforcement officials said additional activities are expected in coming weeks.
The officials, who spoke only on condition of anonymity, said the probe is examining whether the Clintons promised or performed any policy favors in return for largesse to their charitable efforts or whether donors made commitments of donations in hopes of securing government outcomes.
And if this wasn’t bad enough, another story emerged that could put both Clinton and former FBI Director James Comey in hot water.
Attorney General Jeff Session’s office says he’s considering re-opening an investigation into whether Hillary Clinton improperly handled classified documents during her tenure at State.
Republicans in Congress have been hinting that they’d like a second crack at Clinton’s email malfeasance, and her habit of using a person server and unsecured devices to transact in classified information, sending material to top aides over open connections and hosting sensitive foreign policy documents on a server in her Chappaqua, New York, master bathroom.
But in recent weeks, the DOJ says, incidents have come to light that shed doubt on the FBI’s investigation, which cleared Clinton of any wrongdoing, finding that Clinton was merely careless in her handling of classified documents and not criminally reckless — a difference they’ve often failed to articulate.
First, FBI Director James Comey appears to have determined Clinton wouldn’t face repercussions well before the FBI’s investigation had concluded — or, for that matter, agents had even interviewed key witnesses. Now, it seems, agents working on the investigation exposed their own political biases, and, most recently, it appears agents found classified information on Huma Abedin’s and Anthony Weiner’s home computer that was never analyzed.
Sessions’ office has now interviewed FBI agents connected to the probe to see if there was any reason to believe the probe wasn’t conducted fairly.
It’s possible that investigation has turned up more than we know. But regardless, Hillary Clinton should be concerned. It seems the Trump Administration isn’t as willing to forgive and forget as they once were.
