$15 Minimum Wage Pushers CRUSHED After McDonald’s Makes This BOLD Move

by Jason DeWitt | Top Right News

Well, all those liberal folks campaigning for a $15 an hour minimum wage are about to cry their eyes out after they see how McDonald’s is responding to legislation enforcing the hike.

The fast food giant just unveiled a new “mega-McDonald’s,” outside St. Louis.  In addition to adding bottomless fries to their menu, and revamping the atmosphere to provide armchairs and couches, the Mound City, Mo., McDonald’s will have kiosks taking orders instead of people. And food-making machines are not far behind.

Owner Chris Habiger said the kiosks will make it easier for customers to order. But efficiency is not all the kiosks represent.

Andy Pudzer, CEO of Hardee’s and fellow fast food giant Carl’s Jr. said moving from people to technology is the future of the fast food sector.

He said the need to explore an “employee-free restaurant” is linked to higher minimum wage rates imposed by state and local governments. New York State and California are two of the largest states to recently embrace the drive for a $15 minimum wage.

“With government driving up the cost of labor, it’s driving down the number of jobs,” Pudzer said. “This is the problem with Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton and progressives who push very hard to raise the minimum wage. Does it really help if Sally makes $3 more an hour if Suzie has no job?”

Pudzer suggested the Eatsa chain of restaurants, which are fully automated, as a possible model. Customers swipe charge cards into iPads, then place their orders.

McDonald’s is using kiosks in more places than just Missouri. It recently unveiled one in Chicago for coffee customers.

The nice thing about freedom is that if a business owner is forced comply to some new ridiculous regulation, they have the freedom be innovate and adapt. The caboose was never meant to overpower the engine…

    • jb80538

And the railroad does not use a caboose any longer.

      • PixelPusher777

You’re correcting someone who worked on the railroad. LOL I’m well aware. I guess the younger generation would have become totally confused, but thanks for clueing them in…

        • jb80538

And a cousin of mine used to ride in the caboose. He still works for the railroad but works in the yard

          • PixelPusher777

I worked in the yard too. It can get very complicated in a hurry…

      • Karl Dulle

They do here in New England…

  • Sonny Paker

Sally might make 3 bucks more to get 15 bucks and hour… Hell that is in NY and California… Where I live, You will be lucky to get 7.25 an hour… If that… Some McDonalds are paying a little lower than minunum wage… Think that one… Everyone see a person make 12 bucks an hour, here its 7…

    • Melissa Jasper

No corporate company is paying below minimum wage in the United States. One employee makes a call and that is over. Some states have lower minimum wage than others. Some places may be paying below minimum wage for another state, but for their state, it’s minimum wage.

    • Daniel Zellers

      This is a problem

    • jimnbubba

And in NY and CA.you’ll pay five times the amount to live

  • maqwjb8

They are already in place in Cocoa Florida

  • Melissa Jasper

Oh? You were making $10 an hour before. Now you’re making $0.

    • Tired O’Libs

It will still take these morons another 2 hrs to work out your math with their common core skills and another hour and a half to figure out they got screwed without getting kissed! I guess I should say screwed themselves !

    • L.A. Canuck

Yup… That’s what happens when you demand more money from an industry that isn’t going to just jack up its prices ‘because you want to be paid more’.

This should actually be a good less for kids. What career do you want to be in ?
Service industry that’s protesting for $15/hour, and is being rendered obsolete due to its cost/item or…
Technical industry that builds / maintains this stuff.

I’d rather be in the latter. This is a reason to stay in school, kids.

      • Jack Potter

School isn’t enough though. You need work experience, but jobs require work experience. If even minimum wage pays $15/hr, there is no way for a young person to start acquiring work experience because the minimum wage prices them out of a job.

        • L.A. Canuck

In school, there are many apprenticeship programs. Some may require you to work for free. Some may be volunteer work. When I was in college, we were required to complete 12 months of internship regardless of pay. Most that stayed in the cities ended up having to work for free. I was lucky enough to work in the boonies (+20 years ago for $13/hour.

  • Albert Schmitlap.

Guess LEARNING more about the job to get a promotion to make More Money never crossed their minds, huh. Sad , BTW, Who the heck STAYS at Entry Level Wage for more then 2 yrs????

    • Elaine Eckart

the reason is they are taught in school everyone is a winner, and every one deserves a medal. The medal has no value, neither does the higher pay. If it is not earned, they will still be doing nothing to deserve it.

      • Daniel Zellers

        And the system will repeat

    • disqus_yq9xequyt3

Hell most Americans have stayed at the same wage level for 6 years and it isn’t going to change any time in the near future because of the number of people out of work. This Government brags the unemployment level in around 5% If you add under employed and people who stopped looking after their unemployment ran out it is closer to 19%. Now let touch on minimuim wage jobs. Their levels will never go up until we take the millions of illegals out of the work force who will work for 5 dollars an hour

  • mistel

For a socialist govt, the more people on welfare, the better.

    • wakethesheeple

That’s the communist Cloward-Piven and their theory written by two liberal professors at Columbia University where Obama “CLAIMS” he went to school.
      See photo:

  • thorton

    No more calling in sick

  • Elaine Eckart

wages need to be set by what an employer can pay. If it isn’t enough, go somewhere else. But, maybe that lower salary will give you the experience you need to get a better paying job somewhere else.

    • Todd Lau

Exactly Elaine, that is what a minimum wage job was supposed to do. It was supposed to be the entry door into the workforce. Temporary, not a life long career.

    • Lance

If wages need to be set by what an employer can pay, you’re effectively saying prices need to be set by what consumers can pay, and prices have been rising steadily for years without increases in wages, so why is it a company should be able to set its price, but labor shouldn’t?

      • Charlie

@Lance, clearly you don’t understand supply and demand. Prices are set by what consumers are willing to pay. Suppliers can’t just mark up the price of something for no reason because consumers will just buy their stuff elsewhere. Same principle should apply for cost and supply of labour, but minimum wage disrupts this particular supply and demand relationship, thereby creating a market imbalance (unemployment).

  • Figmo

This is exactly what Bernie wants: “You poor dear. Lost your job to automation? Then you need to elect ‘Uncle Bern’ so that me and my socialist government can take care of you in the future.”

  • Mannie

Not only do the kiosks cost less to operate, they avoid the stupid errors caused by the low end staff.

    • jimnbubba

      And attitudes

  • Libralee

I don’t understand the idiots asking for $15 an hour (or more). Couldn’t they see what would happen? Just think of ALL of the fast food restaurants using the automated method! Talk about maximum unemployment!

  • Concerned Granny

The 2 closest to my home have renovated and are just like this one. I kept telling everyone this was going to happen. How does it feel now to be without a job?

  • Daniel Zellers

Are they still wanting the raise ? These type of people will say yes until I hits them personally.

  • ccw1911

Be careful what you wish for. How these idiots could not see this coming is beyond me. If you want a good job in the fast food industry then you better learn how to program and maintain robots, along with automated assembly. Because that is the future of the industry. And they might need one or two people per location once they are up and running. These people will make good money. They might have one person sweeping the floor for $15 an hour where before they had thirty or forty on three shifts making $12 an hour. Be careful what you wish for.

  • Greg

Hey liberals! That’s what I call “creating jobs!”

We told them that these companies weren’t going to take that wage increase hit, but they didn’t listen.

    • JR

You know what’s good about this though. The minimum wage kids that work at McDonalds that have some gumption and “want to” will be retrained by McDonalds to service the Kiosks. They’ll be acquiring a skill in electronics and networks that will prepare them for the future and that skill will propel them out of minimum wage and into a future. Think about what a McDonalds national kiosk service manager will be making in 5 years.

    • Schmierr Nippel

They did create jobs… in the manufacturing/programming/service of kiosks.

  • JimmiJames

Minimum wage was ok the way if was. It was a starting wage for teens. NOT a career for un-educated Mexicans.

  • JR

Anyone with Freshman Econ101 under their belts could have predicted this. Businessmen can’t afford to live in the Kumbaya world of liberal do-gooders. And it’s just beginner. Government get out of the way and let Capitalism work. Along with American’s work ethic (also being crushed by government handouts) pure Capitalism is what made this country great in a very short span of time. Verify Equal Opportunity, not Equal Outcome and then stand back and watch.

  • penny

wages go up cost of living goes up. You make $10.00 per hour milk is $3.00 per gallon make $15.00 per hour milk goes to $6.00 per gallon. The cost of living always goes up faster than wages.

  • Tony Buccino

Democrats don’t care because they also get most of the unemployed votes. All you have to do is promise a lazy person 1 year or more of free money. The other “solution” we all know democrats are pondering is to require companies to hire under qualified people at $15/hr. We all know that if most of the people are against something the democrats want they simply find a way to make what you are thinking or doing illegal and force you to do it their way.

  • SoftballUmpire

Why is it so difficult for liberals to understand that the primary purpose of being in business is to make a profit. Without it, businesses fail. When government intervenes and mandates a certain wage, the cost of labor must diminish or be eliminated almost entirely or the price of the product or service must rise. When it rises too much, the demand diminishes and profit decreases. Government & Unions commit economic suicide. How many fewer dues paying members of the union are there when there are fewer members with jobs? Too many are devoid of logical thinking capabilities. An old Chinese cook with whom I used to work with after he escaped Communist China to Hong Kong, then arrived here in the States as a refugee used to tell me of these individuals “their porch light is on but nobody home’. Living in mental abstentia with the delusion that socialism actually works to better the lives of everyone and denying that government workers exclusively are benefited by it.

    • Schmierr Nippel

First line I see your problem/confusion…. You tried to tie “liberals” to “understand” ..can’t do that…oxymoron

      • SoftballUmpire

  • David Ziegler

Be careful what you ask for, you may just get it. Just another episode in ass backwards Obama America.

  • Golfer1113

Liberals and especially liberal politicians never think things out. They tell their lies to those who are stupid enough to believe them even though it usually bites them in the butt time after time. But that’s ok, now they can stay home and collect welfare. Boy, that worked out great for the entire country now didn’t it?

  • Judy

I knew that was coming when they started to push for $15 an hour, they us self serve at the stores. I don’t because they don’t cost me any less money and I know it takes some ones job. Now we tax payer will be paying more welfare out for the workers that don’t have any job now. We could have helped them make of the difference, now we will pay it all.

  • Pat Fox

there you go Commifornia, now go figure out this mess you just made for your citizens !!!! as usual !!!!!

At least we know our order will be correct and we don’t have to worry about speaking Spanish or getting the correct change back. It is all good, and no surprise.

Before non hospitality workers get all cocky and start laughing at these people, just remember the economic is going down, jobs such as retail, some financial etc are going over seas, because labour is cheaper. The dollar is too high no one would, bother buying in America, Australia etc anymore. So stop getting all cocky and judging others and in YOUR words. “Educate yourselves”. If anyone is going to attack me before you do 1) Im for the Republic and 2) no I don’t work in Hospitality, I studied economics and i’m aware of whats going on in the economie.

  • paulrandall

Home Depot went to automated check out years ago before minimum wage increases were a realistic possibility. I’m not sure how low wages would have to be before it didn’t make sense to automate, perhaps one dollar per hour would do it. It is just political self serving BS to blame automation on minimum-wage increases. It’s going to happen anyway.

These business geniuses might wake up one day to find they have no customers and not understand why.

    • Karl Dulle

      I wont use them EVER..

  • Frank Martin

Well with the idiotic logic “If you raise wages prices will go up”, I guess this better mean no more price increases. Never mind the fact that wages have hardly went up lately while the the fat pig big businesses keep jacking prices up anyway.

    • Schmierr Nippel

Wage not only factor in pricing.

  • Lance

Sure top right news. Just delete my comments. Not interested in rational discussion, or are you afraid your readers don’t have the brain power to discus the issues. You can put them back any time you grow the grapes.

Yeah, looks like they’re really hurting because of this. Remember this. They don’t just want low wage workers. They want desperate people begging them for scraps.

  • Rthuba

Progressive Math – 1 makes slightly more money , 3 make welfare. win/win

  • Philip J Viavattine

Let’s give Gas Station attendants more money, oops self service. Lets pay cashiers more money, oops self service check out. So why do some jobs have higher paying rates? Because they have more demanding skills so if you don’t like minimum wage then don’t have minimum skills.

  • Jj Neufmois

For the record I really don’t care whose fault it is; Left or Right. If you’re working a minimum wage job, you get what you work for! If you really want to make $15 an hour, go to a retailer or I dunno…work your butt off like everyone else at your job?! It’s called “Climbing the Corporate Ladder” for a reason and I understand that you have a family to support, but there are other programs out there that are there to help you on the way to bettering yourself to support your spouse and kids. That doesn’t give you the right to harass your current employer and hope for the best! Of course the wages aren’t what you expect at McD’s, you’re getting paid for your performance. If McD’s is your only shot, then go be a manager! They have classes for that!

  • Glasstra

They already use these kiosks in France. And you cannot customize your meal at all.

  • Crispy Crunchy

So, if they use a kiosk and don’t have employees, does that mean we’ll get a Big Mac meal for $1.99?

  • Chad Brown

I first seen and used these order systems in McDonalds
around 2004? How is this breaking news?
